🔥 You Are Not Your Past
If They Can’t Accept the Fact That People Change, They’re Not Supposed to Be On Your Path
There’s a moment in every healing journey when someone tries to drag you back into the version of yourself you’ve outgrown. They’ll say, “You’ve changed,” as if it’s a crime. But growth isn’t betrayal—it’s survival.
I’ve had people walk away because they couldn’t accept the man I’ve become. They were attached to my silence, my struggle, my invisibility. When I started speaking truth, setting boundaries, and walking in light—they couldn’t follow. And that’s okay.
🧠 Personal Story: The Fork in the Road
Years ago, I reached out to someone I once trusted—hoping they’d see the progress I’d made. Instead, they reminded me of every mistake I’d ever made. No grace. No growth. Just a mirror of my past.
That was the day I stopped begging for understanding. I realized: if someone can’t accept that people change, they’re not meant to walk beside you. My path had shifted. And theirs had stayed the same.
🙏 Devotional Reflection: Paul’s Transformation
Paul wasn’t always a preacher. He was once Saul—the persecutor. But when God changed his heart, Paul didn’t wait for public approval. He walked boldly into his new identity.
“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone, the new has come.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17
You are not your past. You are your purpose. And not everyone is equipped to witness your transformation.
✍️ Workbook Prompt
Take a moment to reflect:
- Who still sees you as your past?
- What boundaries do you need to set to protect your growth?
- Write a letter to your former self. What would you say to honor how far you’ve come?
- Remind yourself daily you are worth it because you are.
