If you had a time machine and could send just one message to your past self, what would it say?
If I could send a transmission across time—back to the younger version of myself standing at the starting line—it wouldn’t be winning lottery numbers, stock tips, or warnings about specific mistakes.
It would be just three words:
Remember your worth.
The Noise at the Starting Line
When you’re young, the world is loud. People are quick to tell you who you are, where you belong, and how small you ought to keep yourself. You run into bullies, doubters, and people who only feel tall by pushing others down.
When you don’t yet know the weight of your own value, it’s easy to believe them. You shrink to fit into spaces where you were meant to stand tall. You let things slide that you should have pushed back against. You spend years looking outward for permission to exist when the foundation was supposed to be built inside you all along.
What I Wish I Knew Sooner
If that younger version of me could read this note, here is what I’d want him to understand:
Your value isn’t up for negotiation. Other people don’t set your price tag. How someone treats you is a reflection of their character, not your value.
Never let anyone push you around. Standing up for yourself doesn’t mean being bitter or aggressive—it means drawing a line in the sand and refusing to let anyone make you feel small.
You don’t need permission to take up space. You don’t have to prove your right to be here or earn basic respect. It’s yours from day one.
Looking Back, Moving Forward
We can’t build a time machine, and we can’t rewrite the years that brought us here. But the beauty of a message like this is that it doesn’t only apply to the past.
No matter how many times life knocks you down or how much noise is around you today, the truth doesn’t change: You were worth it then, and you are worth it now.
